Local Lake
Lake MacBride State Park : Only a short drive from the hotel (27 miles). A great place for a family outing. Multi-use trails wind for miles around the lake. All park trails offer opportunities for the sights and sounds of Iowa at its best. Bird watchers will thrill to the sight of nearly every songbird native to the region. The trail is very popular with bicyclists. 6 Volkssport Trails have been established for seasonal use.
Lake Activities: Lake MacBride offers swimming, boating & fishing and is an angler's delight. Beautiful beach area with snack bar. Good catches of walleyes, channel catfish, crappies, & bluegill in the 812 acre artificial lake. Stocked annually. This lake may be the only lake in Iowa in which the prized Kentucky spotted bass can be caught. Good lake access for boats. 7 boat ramps. Visit the MacBride Raptor Center while there.

The Amana Colonies National Historic Landmark
The seven Amana Colonies are a National Historic Landmark. As the home of one of America's most successful experiments in communal living, the seven Amana Colonies established in 1855 are a part of the American story. Drive the Amana Colonies trail, the loop of highway which connects the seven villages and you'll see architecture unlike that seen anywhere else. Villages were purposefully arranged with the church at the heart of the village. Barns and mills were located at the edge. Craft shops were clustered in one area.
